Exciting New Train Routes Coming in 2024! Get Ready for the Expo

27 December 2024

JR West Japan has revealed its plans for significant changes in train schedules starting March 15, 2024. This upgrade aligns with the upcoming Osaka-Kansai Expo set to launch on April 13, 2025.

A highlight of the new service includes the introduction of the “Expo Liner.” This train will connect Shin-Osaka Station directly to Osaka Station (underground) and Universal City Station, providing seamless travel to Sakurajima Station, the nearest station to the expo venue. Passengers can look forward to 14 trains departing from Shin-Osaka Station to Sakurajima between 7 AM and 7 PM and 12 return trips from Sakurajima to Shin-Osaka from 11 AM to 10 PM. There will also be shuttle buses available from Sakurajima Station to the expo site.

To accommodate the expected surge in visitors, JR West Japan is enhancing services on the Osaka Loop Line and the JR Yumeshima Line. This includes additional trains during peak times. Specifically, during weekday mornings and evenings, trains will run frequently to ensure convenience for travelers.

Furthermore, during peak travel seasons, including Golden Week and New Year’s, the Sanyo Shinkansen will introduce extra Nozomi services. Additionally, all cars in the Nozomi service will be designated as reserved seating, ensuring a more organized and pleasant travel experience for all passengers.

Enhancing Travel: JR West Japan’s Strategic Train Service Upgrades Ahead of Osaka-Kansai Expo

JR West Japan is embarking on a transformative journey for its train services, with substantial changes scheduled to take effect on March 15, 2024. This initiative is a part of the preparations for the anticipated Osaka-Kansai Expo, which is set to commence on April 13, 2025.

Key Features of the New Services

# Introduction of the “Expo Liner”
A standout feature in the upgraded timetable is the debut of the “Expo Liner.” This newly introduced train service will directly connect Shin-Osaka Station to both Osaka Station (underground) and Universal City Station. This connection facilitates seamless travel to Sakurajima Station, which is the closest stop to the expo venue.

Frequency of Service: Passengers can take advantage of 14 scheduled trains from Shin-Osaka Station to Sakurajima between 7 AM and 7 PM. Conversely, 12 return trips will be available from Sakurajima to Shin-Osaka from 11 AM to 10 PM.
Shuttle Services: In addition, shuttle buses will operate from Sakurajima Station to the expo site, further easing access for visitors.

# Enhancements on Existing Lines
To meet the surge in visitors anticipated for the expo, JR West Japan is also making significant improvements to existing lines:

Osaka Loop Line: The service frequency on the Osaka Loop Line will be bolstered, particularly during peak hours on weekdays, with additional trains to provide hassle-free commuting.
JR Yumeshima Line: Travelers can expect similar enhancements on the JR Yumeshima Line, ensuring efficient service during busy travel periods.

Seasonal Additional Services
Recognizing the need for extra capacity during peak travel seasons, JR West Japan will introduce additional Nozomi services on the Sanyo Shinkansen during busy periods such as Golden Week and the New Year’s holidays.

Reserved Seating: All cars in the Nozomi service will be exclusively reserved seating, which aims to enhance the overall travel experience by reducing crowding and ensuring that travelers have a designated place to sit.

Insights into Projected Visitor Growth
With the Osaka-Kansai Expo drawing an expected influx of domestic and international visitors, JR West Japan’s strategic initiatives are timely. Increased capacity and improved connectivity will cater to the estimated millions expected to attend the expo.

Conclusion
JR West Japan’s planned upgrades to train services reflect a proactive approach to enhancing transport efficiency leading up to the Osaka-Kansai Expo. With the introduction of the “Expo Liner” and improved scheduling on existing lines, passengers can anticipate a smoother travel experience starting in March 2024.
